ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maria Meerovitch was born in St.Petersburg to non-musicians family. Nevertheless music has been an important part of family’s life and at the age of six Maria began her musical education.
At the age of eight she performed at St.Petersburg Philharmonic Hall for the first time.
She continued her studies at St.Petersburg Conservatory’s junior Music Institute with M.Freindling and M.Lebed and later under Prof. Anatol Ugorski at the Rimsky-Korsakov St.Petersburg State Conservatory, with piano as principal subject.
In 1990 Maria came to Belgium after having received a scholarship from “Fonds Alex de Vries”- Y.Menuhin Foundation, graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (cum laude) and immediately began teaching piano and chamber music at the same institution.
She subsequently won first prizes at several International Competitions (G.B. Viotti, Italy; Ch. Hennen, the Netherlands) and has been performing around the world ever since appearing in solo and chamber music recitals in the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, The Republic of South Africa, South Korea, Israel and Europe. Highlights include Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), St.Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, Rudolfinum (Prague), Théâtre des Champs Élysées (Paris), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Bad-Kissingen Musik Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Martha Argerich Festival (Hamburg), Opera City Hall (Tokyo), Laeiszhalle (Hamburg), De Doelen (Rotterdam), Trans Siberian Art Festival (Novosibirsk), Cité de la Musique (Paris), Newport Music Festival (Newport), Martha Argerich’s Meeting Point (Beppu), Heidelberger Frühling Festival (Heidelberg), National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), Pharos Chamber Music Festival (Cyprus), Progetto Martha Argerich (Lugano), De Doelen (Rotterdam), Grand Hall Liszt Academy (Budapest), Teatro Municipal (Rio de Janeiro), Palais des Congrès (Cannes), etc.
She collaborated and made a number of recordings (on platforms and labels, such as : Arte-TV, Mezzo-TV, Teldec-classics, Naxos, SWR Music, Orchid Classics) with a variety of international chamber music partners, among which : Martha Argerich, Pinchas Zukerman, Philippe Hirschhorn, Saulus Sondeckis, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Daniel Hope, Dmitry Sitkovetzky, Dora Schwarzberg, Boris Berezovsky, Sergei Nakariakov, Daishin Kashimoto, Boris Brovtsyn, Christian-Pierre La Marca, Barnabás Kelemen, Pavel Berman, etc.
As a soloist Maria appeared with numerous orchestras around the globe including London Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, The English Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Cannes, and many others.
In 2023, after a successful CD recording (SWR/Naxos production) Maria has been invited on a short notice to substitute Martha Argerich in D.Schostakovich Piano concerto, op.35.
In 2012 she was one of the few artists to participate in Ivry Gitlis’s Anniversary celebration in Salle Pleyel next to Martha Argerich, Maxim Vengerov, Itamar Golan, Akiko Suwanai, and many others.
As a soloist Maria appeared with numerous orchestras around the globe including London Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, The English Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Cannes, etc.
Maria’s research on a subject related to the treatment of severe tendonitis during the piano playing amongst professional musicians, a list of exercises, based on her own experience and full recovery, made a significant change in her daily work as a piano instructor.
As a result of 10 successful years of teaching at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and her career as a performer, Maria was invited to share her experience at the Piano and Chamber music master classes worldwide. To name a few : Johannesburg University (Johannesburg), Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Cardif), Cincinnaty University (Cincinnaty), Christopher Newport University (Newport), Trans Siberian Art Festival Master Classes (Novosibirsk), etc.

Since 2024, Maria Meerovitch is permanently joining the Accademia Perosi in Biella as a professor of Piano Solo and Chamber Music.
Her present lectures in the field of “Stage Fright” research has received a significant response from professional musicians.
Since 2022, Maria has been conducting lectures on the subject in diverse venues around the world, which include the Conservatory of Torino, Hohner-Konservatorium in Trossingen, Budapest Festival Academy, Accademia Perosi, as well as the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
